A Dazzling Secret Santa Gift

Secret Santa is set to be one of our most enduring gift exchange traditions, though it's a fairly new one here in the U.S. Most credit the latest incarnation of the anonymous gift swap to 20th century philanthropist Larry Dean Stewart, who started distributing $100 to people in the Kansas City streets and founded the Society of Secret Santas. But the swap has its roots in an old Scandinavian Christmas custom and appears in German folklore as well. It's enjoyed under different names throughout the West and spawned countless variations here, including online Secret Santa, Thieving Santa, Casino Santa, Conspiracy Santa... We could go on, but our main point here at Currans Flowers is, you're going to need a good gift for it. Read More about A Dazzling Secret Santa Gift »

Gracious Centerpieces for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is but a minute away, but there's still time to grace your table with flowers. The centerpiece is one of our most cherished holiday traditions. Both the cornucopia - an age-old approach to suggesting abundance on one's table - and the centerpiece have a rich history. These days, the two have even been blended in some cases, with flowers spilling out of the horn of plenty instead of fruit. Here at Curran's Flowers we have a variety of blooms for your holiday table, whether you're looking for a traditional centerpiece or want something a little more modern. Gifts for the Givers

Heading to someone else's home for Thanksgiving this year? You're in good company (and will be, we trust). Last year, nearly 50 million people traveled 50 miles or more, over hill and dale, to break bread with family or friends who hosted them for the holiday. If that trend continues, and we here at Currans Flowers suspect it will, that's a lot of people showing up on a lot of doorsteps. And we're here to remind you not to do that empty-handed. Even in these post-Emily Post days, it's customary to offer your host or hostess a gift for their efforts, extending your gratitude and appreciation. We've got two suggestions for how to approach this gift-giving scenario. Read More about Gifts for the Givers »

Honor Them Through Flowers

There is no official flower for Veterans Day, and we here at Currans Flowers are wondering, What gives? We have a half dozen florals reserved for more somber occasions - white lilies, chrysanthemums, red poppies worn on the lapel - but no designated flowers for special days like these. While that leaves room for us to be creative in what we send to our beloved patriots, customizing an arrangement to his or her particular taste, it can also leave us wishing there was a distinct tribute that made the occasion very clear. We think its the perfect time to both be creative and pay tribute. Read More about Honor Them Through Flowers »

Major Mums for Fall

We don't know if you know this, but here at Curran's Flowers, we grow mums. Lots of em. So it's no stretch to say that we love November's official bloom, which usually makes its debut on doorsteps, garden beds, and in indoor arrangements in October. It's also safe to say that we know what we're doing when it comes to tending Fall's favorite flower. How major are our mums? See for yourself. Read More about Major Mums for Fall »
