Here at Currans Flowers, we’re as busy as elves in the shop whipping up our seasonal floral designs. Our shelves are bright with red, green, white, gold and silver, lots of fragrant greens and even more holiday spirit. We also know that this is one of the best times to get your craft on, and since we’re in the business of making beautiful things, we support creativity in all of its forms. Especially during the holidays. To that end, we’re giving you one floral item you can work into your merry, magical decor scheme, as well as a DIY tip.
Behold the glorious Red Poinsettia Plant. It needs no assistance in being merry, with its bright red leaves spilling out all over, inviting you to get festive. You’ll want a few of these to cluster around your front steps or the fireplace, but you might also want to make your own poinsettias, too.
Here’s how to make your own decorative paper poinsettias:
Gather hardy red and green paper, a pair of scissors, a pencil, pipe cleaner, glue and gold beads.
Download poinsettia template like this one and print.
Cut out the poinsettia, then place it over your red paper. Trace and cut two of them. Do the same with the green paper.
Once you’ve got your flower and leaves, you can begin building your poinsettia.
Position the red leaves so that they fan out from each other, creating multiple leaves. Glue together. Then glue the leaves so that they show from behind the flower.
Punch small holes in the center of the flower. Insert the pipe cleaner between the holes and bend through so that you now have a stem.
Glue gold beads into the center to hide the pipe cleaner. Viola!
