Roses are quite fascinating, and there are many wonderful, strange, and amazing facts associated with them.
For instance, did you know that although roses grow around the world, none of their 150 varieties occurred naturally south of the equator? That’s right – all varieties of the rose originated in the northern hemisphere. However, they have been cultivated successfully south of the equator – and the land of Zambia, a country in Africa, is actually approximately 80% covered in roses!

The rosebush is a wonder in and of itself – this hardy plant has been known to grow and thrive for hundreds of years, in fact the oldest known rosebush is still producing blooms after nearly 1,200 years! The rose hip, which is an accessory fruit of the rose, exceeds even the orange for its concentration of Vitamin C, and is widely used in medicinal applications.
